The Born To Be Mild MC isn’t really a club at all.
We are group of friends who met as strangers in 2016 on an organised tour to Slovenia & Croatia, and very quickly became friends. After returning from the tour we found that of the 13 riders on that tour, 6 of us remained in contact using a WhatsApp group we had created to share photos.
We met up again at the 2016 NEC bike show and agreed to tour the following year with Brittany Ferries using one of their ferry/hotel packages.
The name ‘Born To Be Mild MC’ originated on the return ferry trip from that 2017 tour as everyone else seemed to have tee-shirts with a logo announcing their tribe. Pun-meister Colin coined the phrase and it was picked up by Clappo for the 2018 T-shirt.
Invited Members – In addition to the original 6 members, 3 additional friends have at different times accompanied us on our C&H tours (6-8 being our optimal tour party size).
Mid-Year Meets – As we are dispersed across the country from Devon to Notts, we occasionally meet-up at a show or for a weekend of ride-outs.
Clappo & Herbert Tours – Arose from an intercom conversation. Originally just Clappo Tours in acknowledgement of his organising of the 2017 tour, Clappo then promoted Terry (who had already been christened Herbert <as in – cockney herbert> by Clappo on the 2016 tour, and who had created the 2017 routes) – by renaming the outfit to be Clappo&Herbert Tours. This was formally adopted in the design of the 2018 T-shirt.
Credit for this goes to John who has access to professional design services through his family business. It was delivered as a fantastic surprise on another 2017 T-shirt that John arranged and has been adopted as the official club logo.
